When we think about the Bahamas our minds go to endless islands with aquamarine water, white beaches, colourful fish and umbrella drinks. Our hidden gem of today is an island located amongst the 365 other islands in Bahamas’ archipelago “Exuma Cays”, with another twist to it.
Let us introduce you to Pig Island! The place where wild pigs make a splash in the beautiful azure sea. On a tiny island, that is uninhabited when it comes to humans, lives a bunch of wild pigs have that swim every day in the crystal clear Bahamas waters. With Bahamas being where the celebs and riches of the world hangs out, this is the island where the creme de la creme of the pigs live a life in luxury.

There are many legends and theories surrounding the swimming pigs: “They’re said to have been dropped off on Big Major Cay by a group of sailors who wanted to come back and cook them. The sailors, though, never returned; the pigs survived on excess food dumped from passing ships. Another legend has it that the pigs were survivors of a shipwreck and managed to swim to shore, while another claims that the pigs had escaped from a nearby islet. Others suggest that the pigs were part of a business scheme to attract tourists to the Bahamas.
